Questions you may have about working together on your digital presence

What’s a Zoom call with you like?

Reflective. Laid back. A space to dream. I’ll come with questions for you to help guide our conversation. Professors tell me they come away feeling “energized” and “motivated” for your next step.

Is it really a no pressure call? What does that mean?

I approach each conversation with a professor with empathy and kindness. People are happy that “you’re exactly like you seem online!” When we meet on Zoom. We’ll chat about your online presence needs. When I’m a good person to help you, I’ll calculate your quote for our work together live.

You won’t be rushed or pressured to decide or to move forward quickly. I’ll send you a follow up email with the details. You get back to me when you’re ready to move forward. Book your call.

I don’t have an online presence at all. Can you still help?

Yes. You don’t have to do this alone. I’m happy to help you.

I’m not exactly sure what I need. I want a stronger online presence but don’t know what’s most helpful for me.

That’s okay, you’re not alone. Most professors who meet with me aren’t quite sure what’s the best use of our time and energy. Together, we’ll chat about your unique goals and needs. When we’re a good fit to work together, I’m happy to calculate a quote for you on our no pressure Zoom call.

I have questions about my online presence and would like your expertise. But, don’t plan on working together in another of your services. Can I book an hour of your time?

Sure! Let’s meet on a 1-hour consultation call.

I need an online presence fast. Please help.

I wish you the best of luck. I’m happy to help you if possible. You may find this article on The Social Academic useful in the meantime.

Please set up that no pressure Zoom call. If you need to know about my availability by a specific date, please email Jennifer@TheAcademicDesigner.com

I’m a PI. Can you work with my research lab / research group / research project?

Yes. Principal Investigators tend to see me as a long-term partner, and I love feeling like part of the team. But we can also team up for an individual project like your research lab website. Let’s talk about working together.

I have an old or outdated website. I’d really like a refresh, can you help?

Yes. I’m happy to see how I can help you. Sometimes we’ll update and redesign your existing website. If your website host is no longer working for you, we can move your website to a recommended hosting service.

What if I’m not ready to move forward yet?

That’s okay. Many of my clients come to me with a spark, a hope for their research, teaching, or leadership. It’s okay if your online presence can’t be a priority for you right now. Chatting about what it’s like to work together now has helped professors plan for their future. I’ll be delighted to get your, “I’m finally ready for my website,” email whenever you’re ready.

My goals or needs have changed since we last met. Should I book a new Zoom call with you?

Yes! I’d love to catch up with you. Let’s chat about working together on your online presence with your current goals or needs in mind. Can’t wait.

What do I need to know about payment?

Payment for services can be made by credit card, ACH, or check. You can pay out-of-pocket. Or, with university funds (see next FAQ). Your invoice will be due prior to the start of services.

I’ll be paying with university funds, research funds, startup funds, or professional development funds.

Great. I’m quite used to the vendor set up process. I’m happy to be patient with your university to ensure we can use your funds. The typical process is vendor set up > quote > contract / services agreement > invoice > your project starts.

We met on Zoom, but I didn’t receive my follow up email. Can we still work together?

Oh no! Something must have gotten lost (and university SPAM filters are super strong). I always send follow up emails the same day we meet. I’m sorry about that. If you were expecting an email from me, but haven’t heard back, please get in touch. Direct message me on social media. Or, email Jennifer@TheAcademicDesigner.com
