Here’s what to expect
Working with Jennifer van Alstyne on your bio writing project is a warm experience for academics. You’ll meet with Jennifer 1-on-1 on Zoom for a bio writing interview. There’s no need to prepare in advance. This is an informal meeting (pets and children are welcome). Jennifer will have questions for you about your research, teaching, Curriculum Vitae, and goals for your bio(s).
Then, Jennifer dives into drafting your bios for you. The magic includes considering things like
- what’s most important to include for your bios
- the order of information
- what will connect or resonate most with the people you want to reach
- the shape of your story
- flow and structure
For some academics, that sounds a bit overwhelming. Most people have only ever written their own bio as an academic. I’m great at done for you bios that feel like you, that meet your professional needs, and works as a template for you. We’ll do up to 2 rounds of revision so you get the bio you need.
When your final bio writing package is delivered, you’ll also get a custom version of my Keeping Your Bio Updated PDF specific to your bio(s). Professors say it saves them time, that your new bio “feels like the template I always needed.”
